Footage, access and retention

How we think about surveillance footage: who may view it, how long it is kept and what the law requires. This is an educational overview, not legal advice.

Footage is evidence, not decoration. It is recorded with a purpose, kept for a limited time and viewed by rules. Rules are set before the system goes live, not after.

Named people have access to footage. Every viewing is logged. This holds for the systems we install and the ones we maintain.

The retention period is defined by need and agreed. Footage is not kept forever — it is kept as long as the purpose of surveillance requires.

A building under surveillance must be marked. People must know they are being recorded before they enter.

Alongside the design, we help with the rules about footage.
